Agitator shaft with polyurea

Client
BHP — Coloso
Year
2021
Type
Mechanical component
Project no.
CGK-4455
Description

A shaft that works submerged, turning inside the tank to keep the fluid moving, with a polyurea lining to withstand what that fluid does to steel.

We handled the full engineering and 3D modelling, pushing further than the company ever had. The main challenge was integrating the component with its transport system: the shaft exceeded the dimensions allowed by regulation, so we designed and built a specific frame that keeps within transport limits and meets the client's requirements.

The polyurea coating provides internal resistance against the fluid. Dimensional verification combined conventional metrology with structural analysis before the first plate was welded.

Every stage was documented with as-built drawings, dimensional checks and photographic records, guaranteeing that what was delivered matches exactly what was modelled.
